Subject: Whoa - some freaky stuff here!
Not a bad show over all - I remember that there were mosquito warnings about Easter Encephalitis all over the place when we played this one, nice venue, but enough mosquitos to make us nervous. I think this is one of only two (soundcheck) performances ever of News Junkie, neither one too hot because I'd just written it and we were working on it.

Catholic girls is ALWAYS a pleasure to hear, though the definitive yeP! version is out there somewhere in a show from Erie, PA...

EDIT: On relisten, the biggest problem is that the balance of the vocals is all wrong. It was fine for MOST of our songs, but a) this was not like most, and b) it was soundcheck, so the lead is drowned out. Too bad, I always really liked these lyrics:

Music & Lyrics: Matt Laurence

I wake up and rover's made sure that my newspaper's just steps away.
I shake off the dog drool and perk up a pot and I'm starting my day.
I've gone the whole night, not a clip or sound bite in my dreams...
Though sleeping is restful, my noggin/noodle is best full
Of info from Time magazine.

A couple of headlines and maybe a feature will put me on track,
But just for good measure grab Macweek and Newsday right off of the stack.
The heaviest traffic is my demographic they say...
(Chords build over G through this next section)
So I jump in my car, switch on NPR,
The sweet sound of news, dispersing my blues
I shift left one lane, and switch off my brain
And info my troubles away....

It causes a warmish and fuzzy sensation to
See other's misery beamed out to the nation – we
Need no convincing or verification;
It must be the truth – I'm a

At work I've got newsfeeds by Internet from every part of the earth.
I can follow pollution, unrest, revolution from Boston to Perth.
With a couple more clicks I can bring up a window or nine,
Up to the minute on murders and sin, it
Will make sure my newsday goes fine.

Granny's absorbing the toxic reporting all day and all night;
She won't leave the house 'coz the crack heads will rob her and kill her for spite.
Although it's suburbia, the news will perturb ya', you know.
Such sparse information can cause a sensation;
The wierd and the sick will mediate quick;
A subliminal spree that can tempt you and me
To keep watching until the next show...

To be "well informed" is a vast contribution
Providing excuses for mental confusion/pollution;
Intelligent people can find themselves using the
News as a crutch to attain absolution... they're all

I need to turn just one more page to see another hemmorhage.
I then ingest a center spread on Bosnia's ten thousand dead.
Flipping on the TV late, Rush Limbaugh get's quite irate
At liberal Feminazi freaks who Oprah lauded just last week.
Peter Jennings plays his role; we swallow every soundbite whole
All things are considered well when Robert Segal casts his spell.
To play upon our deepest fears, they tell us what we want to hear.
It always sounds so realistic when loaded with the right statistic.

On Monday I switch on the set and get ready top suck down some news;
Some Charles and Di, some terrorists or the new government ruse.
Psychos and freaks I will wholly devour with glee;
It's part of the business of pleasure in Tabloid TV;
But instead of my newsday nirvana, what do I see?

("4th and ten, he's got the ball, he's going in for the TD..."
Oh my God,
That's not news...
4th down, oh my god,

But wait! Just up ahead on the Horizon!
Bill Gates comes to my rescue again!
A channel that will serve my every desire...
